 MTIS Retrofit Program for Stemco AERIS®    

MTIS TP-2408

In discussion with major Stemco AERIS fleets, Meritor has created specific retrofit kits to service TN and TP axles using MTIS parts. These kits are unique in that the intent is to service one axle with an MTIS wheel end solution. Tandem axle retrofits will require two kits. By allowing this retrofit, the intent for the customer is to:

  1. Maintain an active tire inflation system using the current AERIS control box and warning light provided both items are still in working order

  2. Minimize costs to maintain tire inflation on a trailer

  3. Allow the removed AERIS parts on the retrofit axle that are still functional to be used as service parts for other axles with AERIS components.

  4. Include MTIS features such as ThermALERT and Check Port hoses.

FAQ's
  • Data does not show on the display screen when the display is powered on.
    Wait 15-20 minutes for the sensor data to appear on the TPMS display after the first time the system is setup. Leave the TPMS display on until all sensor data appears. After the sensor data is received the first time, subsequent system use should take less time to acquire the sensor information.
  • The display did not accept the sensor ID code during the pairing procedure.
    When programming, immediately press and release the SET button to save the sensor code.
  • Cannot read tire position data for more than a few seconds.
    See TireView™ TPMS Display Normal Scrolling on page 13 of the TireView™ Installation Manual, to pause the automatic scrolling function.
  • Cannot power Off the TPMS display using the On/Off power slide-switch.
    If the display is plugged into an optional constant power source, the power slide-switch on the side will not function. To power Off the TPMS display, unplug the USB power supply and the slide-switch will now operate.
  • A sensor is not sending data to the TPMS display.
    1) Place a working sensor from another tire on the affected valve stem (the sensor will continue to collect data in its original tire position on the display). If the swapped sensor does not read normally, troubleshoot the valve stem. Check for a leaky valve core, debris in the valve stem, or damaged threads. 2) Unscrew the valve core until it starts to release air, then screw it back in slightly to stop the air flow. Check both sensors on the same valve stem again. If the swapped sensor sends data and the original sensor does not, then it may be a sensor issue. Call P.S.I.™ at 210.222.1926 (United States and Canada) or email info@psitireinflation.com or techsupport@psitireinflation.com. 3) If the sensor is not transmitting data to the TPMS display, pair the sensor again to the same tire position. See Automatic Code Learning (option #1) on page 17of the TireView™ Installation Manual.
  • The TPMS display dropped sensor data for a tire position.
    1) If a repeater is installed, check the red LED light on the repeater to make sure that it is operational. 2) An indoor/outdoor thermometer with an external temperature sensor may interfere with the P.S.I.™ TireView™ TPMS. Use a thermometer with a higher frequency of 915 MHz. 3) Atomic clocks can also cause interference with the sensors. 4) If the sensor is over a year old, the battery may be dead. The battery in the sensor cannot be replaced. Contact your P.S.I.™ TireView™ TPMS supplier for replacement.
  • The TPMS display alarm sounds in the evening when the vehicle is not moving.
    Lower outdoor temperatures at night decrease the tire pressure and may drop below the alarm threshold. Turn the display off overnight. As the air temperature rises the next day or driving starts, the tires will also warm up and return to normal parameters. Add air to the tires if needed.
  • The high pressure alarm will not set below 100 PSI (6.9 BAR).
    The high pressure alarm cannot go lower than the low pressure alarm setting. If the tire pressure is below 100 PSI (6.9 BAR), first set the low pressure alarm settings and then set the high pressure alarm settings. See Setting the Sensor Alarms on page 22 of the TireView™ Installation Manual.
  • The TPMS display alarm was triggered and the tire position and its current pressure and temperature values are flashing.
    1) There may be a rapid leak in a tire position. If FAST LEAK shows at bottom of the TPMS display for a tire position, repair the leak. 2) There may be a low sensor battery in a tire position. The upper left battery icon flashes on the TPMS display. Replace the sensor when the battery dies. 3) There may be an overheating tire and HI TEMP shows at the bottom of TPMS display. Stop the vehicle to allow the tire temperature to decrease. 4) Visually inspect the tire for damage or defects. Check the tire pressure as this can affect tire temperature. If necessary, have the tire serviced or replaced. 5) There may be a high or low pressure reading from a tire position. Tire pressures will change over time from environmental conditions. Make sure the tire pressures are correct. Make sure the alarm values are set correctly. See Setting the Sensor Alarms on page 22 of the TireView™ Installation Manual.
  • The trailer is not being used, but is still showing on the TPMS display."

  • The indicator light is ON.
    POSSIBLE CAUSE: The system is delivering air during initial system charging. CORRECTIVE ACTION: The system is functioning correctly. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The system is delivering air to a leaking tire. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Repair the tire. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The system is delivering air to a leaking system component. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace the system component. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The system is delivering air to a cracked axle. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace the axle. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The system wiring is incorrect. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Correct the system wiring.
  • The indicator light is ON and air is leaking from the wheel-end thru-tee fitting.
    POSSIBLE CAUSE: The trailer is equipped with ThermALERT™ system and the wheel-end is hot.The system is delivering air during initial system charging. CORRECTIVE ACTION: The system is functioning correctly. Repair and replace wheelend components.The system is functioning correctly. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The system is delivering air to a leaking system component. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace the system component. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The thru-tee fitting is leaking. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace the thru-tee fitting. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The stator threads are leaking. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Seal the stator threads. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The axle press plug is leaking. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace the axle press plug.
  • The indicator light is OFF during system operation, with air flowing through the control box."
    POSSIBLE CAUSE: The trailer is not supplied with 12 VDC electrical power. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Supply 12 VDC electrical power to the trailer. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The indicator light is inoperative. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace the indicator light. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The flow sensing switch is inoperative. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace the flow sensing switch. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The system wiring is damaged. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Repair the system wiring. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The system wiring is incorrect. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Correct the system wiring. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The system air line routing is incorrect. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Check that the system “IN” and “OUT” air line routing at the Control Box is not reversed.
  • The indicator light is OFF during system operation and air is leaking from the wheel-end thru-tee fitting.
    POSSIBLE CAUSE: The trailer is equipped with ThermALERT™ system, the wheel end is hot and the control box has an incorrect flow switch. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Repair and replace the wheel-end components. Replace the flow switch in the control box with a grey color flow switch.
  • Air is leaking from the wheelend thru-tee fitting.
    POSSIBLE CAUSE: The thru-tee fitting is leaking. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace the thru-tee fitting. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The stator seal is leaking. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace the stator. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The stator threads are leaking. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Seal the stator threads. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The axle press plug is leaking. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace the axle press plug.
  • Tire pressure is low.
    POSSIBLE CAUSE: The shut-off valve is off. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Turn on the shut-off valve. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The system pressure setting is too low. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Increase the system pressure setting. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The incorrect valve cores are installed. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace the valve cores with the P.S.I.® original equipment. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The axle press plug is leaking. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace the axle press plug.
  • Lubricant is leaking from the wheelend vent.
    POSSIBLE CAUSE: The wheel-end is overfilled with lubricant. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Fill the wheel-end to the correct level. POSSIBLE CAUSE: A hubcap without vent extensions is installed onto an oil-lubricated wheel-end. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Install a hubcap with vent extensions. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The thru-tee fitting is leaking. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace the thru-tee fitting. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The stator seal is leaking. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace the stator. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The stator threads are leaking. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Seal the stator threads. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The axle press plug is leaking. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace the axle press plug.
  • Tire pressure is high.
    POSSIBLE CAUSE: The tire is manually over inflated. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Reduce the tire pressure. The system will inflate to the correct level. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The system pressure setting is too high. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Lower the system pressure setting.
  • The trailer tire deflates when parked.
    POSSIBLE CAUSE: The system hose or tire valve stem is leaking. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Correctly tighten the connection or replace the seals. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The hose valve core is leaking. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Clean or replace the hose valve core. POSSIBLE CAUSE: The tire is leaking. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Repair the tire.
  • The tire is slow to inflate or no air flows to the tire.
    POSSIBLE CAUSE: The hose connection to the valve stem may have been overtightened, blocking air flow. CORRECTIVE ACTION: Correctly tighten the connection or replace the hose or seal if it is damaged.
